Summary
Brittany, France, 1760. The painter Marianne is tasked with making a wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young girl who has just left the convent. Héloïse is destined to marry against her will, and Marianne must paint her without her knowledge. Day by day, she watches and secretly paints her throughout the night. Between the two women, intimacy and attraction are soon born as they share Héloïse's first and last moments of freedom, until Marianne paints a portrait that will mark the end of their relationship. The film Portrait of a Lady on Fire at this year's Cannes Film Festival won the Best Screenplay Award.
