Tommaso

Summary

Tommaso is an American with a Roman address. He works on film scripts and teaches acting - and sometimes that just involves breathing and moving around space. Every now and then, he goes to anonymous alcoholics meetings. His relationship with Nikki, the mother of their 3-year-old child, is growing tense. Did their considerable difference in years come to pay? Tomasso is more than thirty years older than Nikki. His life and work, his thinking and his attempts to maneuver with the Italian language are treated with a great deal of eroticism, and he is strongly embodied by New York's iconic actor - Willem Dafoe. In perhaps the most important scene of the movie, he sits with a few Italian outcasts and literally pulls his heart out of his chest, "This is all I got." This emblematic gesture is strongly associated with Abel Ferrara's physical religion.

This rebellious Italian-American filmmaker, who found his second home in the land of his ancestors in his latest film, told the story of a male (if not macho) truth-seeker in the Eternal City, without even dwelling in front of the strongest occidental image: the man on the cross. Did Willem Dafoe, more than thirty years after he made the same appearance with Scorsese, become the ultimate incarnation of the man from Nazareth? Or maybe the ultimate quote?
