Women's Quarter

Summary

A very harsh and realistic documentary on the lives of poor girls and women in the Qaleh district of northern Tehran, which is notorious for prostitution. This neighborhood is connected to the outside world of Tehran by a single door, with public houses, burlesque theaters, beauty salons, liquor stores and bars inside. The film follows several women and communicates how their social position led them to surrender to their shared destiny. This movie was banned and confiscated during filming and partially found after the Revolution. It was completed in 1979 thanks to photographs taken by the late Iranian photographer Kaveh Golestan.
