Film is... consists almost exclusively of sequences from existing science films. These are films about the acrobatic flight of pigeons, the testing of monkey intelligence; about the reverse worlds and stereoscopic vision; hurricanes and shock waves in the air. About breaking glass, about a child's walk, and about a Mercedes colliding with a stone wall in slow motion. The contempt with which scientific films have been received is not directed against the content, but against their conventional, unimaginative, frivolous and saturated appearance comments. Likewise, the fascination with some teaching films can be attributed almost exclusively to the power of their images - images we have never seen, not even in cinemas.
Film is... brings an abundance of such images at the same time. Not only can politics be felt, but also the unique poetry of scientific film, which often uses experimental techniques - extreme slow motion, extreme time flow, the operation of a telescopic or microscopic camera, a solarization, X-ray film.
Film is... is a poetic film in itself. How different pieces find their place and rhythm is reminiscent of modern poetry or photographic work by American artist John Baldessari. Images that, by their source, have nothing to do with each other, which do not belong together, are compared, connected, merged with one another.
